Belarusian Bellesbumprom and Turkish Kastamonu want to form a partnership and manufacture all kinds of wooden boards in Belarus together.
The Turkish holding company has stated their wish to work with the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern, for manufacturing wooden board products which would be used under the Kastamonu brand, as reported by BelTa.
Kastamonu also wants to invest in the development of the production as to also transfer technologies to Belarusian companies, which also may be included into the Turkish company's sales chain. Moreover, major Turkish furniture brands will be invited by Kastamonu in Belarus as to make ready-made products for the Eurasian Economic Union market.
A delegation of Kastamonu managers and experts visited Belarus on 30 May – 3 June 2016 and to discuss about the prospects of a future cooperation. The Bellesbumprom enterprises that make fiberboards, insulation boards, and chipboards, laminated floor boards, furniture, pulp and paper products have also been visited by the Turkish delegation.

Siempelkamp supplies particleboard plant to Australia
Borg Manufacturing Pty. Ltd., an Australian producer of melamine-laminated boards, has ordered a new Siempelkamp particleboard plant for its Oberon location. Moreover, Borg has ordered a retrofitting concept from Siempelkamp.
The new particleboard plant will be set up in Oberon in the Australian state of New South Wales, where Borg Manufacturing operates a facility for wood-panel surfacing.
The Krefeld-based machinery and plant manufacturer received the order for a particleboard plant including a Generation 8-ContiRoll® (pressing format 8’ x 40.4 m, designed for an output of 1,500 m³/day).
Siempelkamp says that the order has two important technological core competences: for one the almost isobaric pressure distribution in the press and secondly the latest forming technology, presently representing the latest benchmark with respect to raw material consumption. This is achieved, amongst others, by an optimised material feed into the dosing bins and by two field-proven Eco-Formers, which are wind formers for producing the surface layers. The mat former system is completed with two CageFormers for producing the core layers; the formers are equipped with modules designed to adjust the weight-per-unit area of the mat. The interplay of these components enables a high forming precision and - along with the almost isobaric pressure distribution in the ContiRoll® - ensures an especially material- and cost-efficient particleboard production.
Retrofitting concept for an existing MDF-plant
At its Oberon location Borg is also investing in a retrofitting concept for an MDF-plant made by Siempelkamp. Focus is placed on the upgrading of the ContiRoll® to the latest technical standard. The upgrade comprises, amongst others, the installation of a completely flexible press infeed, a booster infeed hot platen, the installation of pressure compensation plates and the updating of the hydraulic system by adding a track of cylinders in the calibration section of the press. Along with the upgrade of the plant’s existing electrical system Borg Manufacturing Pty. Ltd. will be sure to benefit by increasing the plant’s output and at the same time reducing its raw material input.
A revision of the Ecopilot system is also part of the retrofitting concept. The existing concept will be provided with a total of eight tracks. The Ecopilot measures the board thickness at the press discharge over the board width comparing it with the set thickness. Any deviations can be compensated by controlled adjustment of the specific pressure within the calibration zone. The hydraulic system will be modified accordingly to individually adjustable cylinders.
Both the new particleboard production plant and the MDF-plant to be retrofitted will be equipped with our Prod-IQ.quality system. Model-based online quality checks will ensure material- and cost-efficient production.
China: Five Year plan sees 1.4 billion cubic metre forest stock
The 13th Five Year Planning for China’s national forestry development has been released by the State Forestry Administration (SFA), as ITTO reported.
According to the plan just over 33 million hectares of plantations will be established and tending of the current 40 million hectares will continue.
The plan envisages China’s national forest stock will reach 1.4 billion cubic metres, the forest cover will rise to just over 23% and the total value of forestry industry output will amount to RMB8.7 trillion.
During 12th Five Year Plan period output from the country’s forest industry grew by more than 20% to RMB5.94 trillion compared to output in the previous plan period.
The average annual production of wood-based panels in the 12th plan period was 250 million cubic metres and flooring output tipped 690 billion square metres.
Xylexpo 2016 attracts 14.2% more visitors
A significant result that reaffirms Xylexpo’s position among the most important exhibitions in the wood technology and wood-based materials industry. The 25th edition from 24 to 28 May closed with largely positive figures: 17,145 visitors attended the event, with a 14.2 percent increase compared to two years ago. Excellent results for international visitors with 5,068 operators, i.e. 29.1 percent of total attendance, up by 9.3 percent from 2014.
Even better on the Italian side: 12,437 industry professionals came to FieraMilano-Rho from all over Italy, as much as 16.3 percent more than in 2014 and 70.9 percent of all visitors.
“We are very satisfied with the results of the Milan exhibition”, said Dario Corbetta, exhibition director. “We saw many people in the aisles of Xylexpo, plenty of exhibitors and visitors; we breathed a different air, a better atmosphere; there was a climate of participation and real interest. I want to stress the fact that everyone was at Xylexpo this year, ready to work together," he added.
For the second edition, organizers have counted "heads" instead of "visits", real people instead of accesses, which were 41 thousand in five days. Europe was by far the main region of origin, with a 70.8 percent share of visitors, followed by Asia (including Russia and Turkey) with 19.2 percent, Americas (6 percent), Africa (3 percent) and Oceania (1 percent).
Xylexpo 2016 hosted 441 exhibitors (122 from 29 foreign countries), over a total surface of 29,189 square meters, two thousand more than in 2014.

US Demand for wood-plastic composite and plastic lumber to reach $6 Billion
US demand for wood-plastic composite (WPC) and plastic lumber is forecast to advance 6.9% per year to $5.9 billion in 2020. Continuing growth in construction expenditures—particularly in the residential market—will spur gains.
WPC and plastic lumber have taken market share from wood in such applications as decking and molding and trim due to favorable aesthetic and performance properties and will see increasing use in these segments. CLT comes to Australia
Australia’s first Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) manufacturing plant will be built by XLam in the Albury Wodonga region, representing a $25 million investment and creating 54 local jobs.
Announced on May 22nd, the high tech sustainable timber facility will produce 60,000 m3 of CLT each year, which is enough to construct the equivalent of one Forte Melbourne – Australia’s greenest apartment building – every week.
The final site of the construction will be announced in the coming weeks.
Operational mid 2017, the new facility will be the sole manufacturer of CLT in Australia, and one of the most technologically advanced CLT plants worldwide.
“For the first time Australian builders will be able to choose a CLT product that is designed and made in Australia from Australian timber, meeting a significant demand in the current market. By building this facility in Albury Wodonga we’ll be in easy reach of Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra via the road and rail networks, and from there Australia wide,” XLam CEO Gary Caulfield said.
The announcement was made at the Frame Australia Conference and Exhibition in Melbourne.

SCA fined €35 million in Spain for improper market conduct
The Spanish National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) has fined a number of companies, among which SCA.
The fine imposed on SCA amounts to approximately SEK 325m (EUR 35 million) for alleged improper market conduct between 1996 and 2014.
The total fines amount reached EUR 128.8 million, for eight manufacturers active on the Spanish incontinence care market. The list of the effected companies includes Arbora & Ausonia (succeeded by Procter & Gamble Spain), Laboratories Indas, SCA Hygiene Products, Laboratorios Hartmann, Ontex ID, Barna Import Medical, Textil Planas Oliveras and Algodones del Bages.
As SCA reported, the company does not agree with the CNMC’s decision and will submit an appeal to the Spanish courts. A provision for the fine will be reported as an item affecting comparability in the second quarter of 2016.
The company also stated that it was committed to full compliance with competition laws as set out in the company’s Code of Conduct.

Estonia: Roundwood prices drop in March 2016
Roundwood prices in Estonia show a predominantly downward trend in March 2016. This applies both as compared to February as well as compared with March 2015. This is in contrast with the upward trend noticed since the beginning of the year. With the exception of smaller-diameter pine, all March softwood log prices in Estonia have become lower as compared to February.

Resolute Forest Products files lawsuit against Greenpeace in US
Resolute Forest Products Inc. filed a federal lawsuit in the US against Greenpeace and a number of its associates for racketeering and defamation against the company’s forestry practices.
The complaint, filed with the U.S. District Court for the Southern District Of Georgia, included federal racketeering claims and racketeering, trademark, defamation and tortious interference claims and the Montreal, Quebec-based company seeks compensatory and other damages.
