Latvian softwood log prices edge higher
The average purchase price of softwood logs in Latvia edged higher in the second half of 2024, while prices for hardwood logs declined, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau (CSB). Pine sawlogs with a diameter up to 14 cm posted the strongest increase among softwoods, rising 10% from the first half of the year to €81.4 per cubic meter (excluding VAT). Spruce logs of the same diameter recorded a similar gain, climbing 10% to €75.8 per cubic meter . Logs in the 14–18 cm range also saw robust growth, with spruce and pine prices up 9%, reaching €86.5 and €84.2 per cubic meter respectively. Larger-diameter logs posted more modest increases, with spruce logs over 26 cm rising 6%, and pine and spruce logs in the 18–26 cm category each up 4%. Japan projects decline in log imports, mixed trends for lumber in 2025
The Japan Lumber Importers Association has released its projections for imported wood products in 2024 and the first half of 2025.
