China: Log and lumber stocks accumulating at ports
After the 2022 February Spring Festival both log and lumber stocks have been accumulating at ports but, due to slow demand, the inventory of the major wood market dealers has been running high. The ports are overstocked with logs and the stock of logs at Taicang Port have reached a record high of 1.7 million cubic meters, resulting in a sharp drop in both logs and lumber imports compared with last year. Log and sawnwood availability in Vietnam problematic and price a major issue
Due to the impact of Covid-19 imported wood raw materials from major suppliers is now problematic. Availability and supply chain disruptions have pushed up prices for imported wood which is affecting the willingness of Vietnamese manufacturers to accept orders with a long delivery period. In addition to the high cost of imports prices of local plantation timber have jumped about 5%. Practical solutions taken by the Government and the private sector have helped industries grasp market opportunities and record impressive growth in 2021. By the end of 2021 W&WP exports reached US$14.8 billion, up by 20% compared to 2020 and accounting for 4.4% of the total export earnings by the country. In particular, the share of high value-added WPs (wooden furniture, floorings, doors etc.) rose sharply. W&WP exports to top markets, such as the US, China, Japan, EU, South Korea, Canada... Rusforest reports lower sawnwood production in Q2/2016
RusForest AB announced preliminary Q2 2016 production and sales results for its Magistralny and Ust-Ilimsk units in Russia. In Q2 2016, RusForest harvested 31,770 m3 of logs, compared with 29,704 m3 in Q2 2015 (+7%), which included 24,636 m3 of own harvesting in Ust-Ilimsk. Harvesting operations in Magistralny decreased by 76% in Q2 2016 to 7,134 m3. The main reasons for lower harvesting volumes were an early wet spring and therefore problems with hauling in the beginning of April, as well as planned lower harvesting volumes in Q2 due to strong Q1 2016 harvesting. Harvested volumes in Magistralny for the first half 2016 only decreased by 4% compared with the first half 2015. Sawmilling In Q2 2016, RusForest produced 17,838 m3 of sawnwood, compared with 18,467 m3 in Q2 2015 (-3%). Lower sawnwood production volumes were caused by sawlogs shortage in June. At the same time... Continue reading →
