European laminate flooring industry grows sales in 2021
For the second year in a row, the Association of European Laminate Flooring Manufacturers (EPLF) members have continued to prosper thanks to their focus on innovation and sustainability. In 2021, EPLF members’ sales growth persisted with an increase of +5.3% compared to 2020, and a total of 483.4 million m² of flooring sold. Members had already benefited from the consumer craze for DIY and interior design in 2020 by growing their business by +2.7% compared to 2019. Despite the difficulties in sourcing raw materials and the disruptions in the supply chains, EPLF members have shown extraordinary resilience, and a capacity to seize any opportunities to foster business growth. Looking at the global markets, Latin America witnessed the biggest growth in 2021, with +61.5% in comparison to 2020, and 22.8 million m² of flooring sold. Kastamonu increased production of wood-based panels at Alabuga plant in Russia by 30% in 2017
Turkish Kastamonu increased its output in 2017 at the Alabuga plant in Russia. Production of wood-based panels and laminate went up by 30%, as compared to 2016. The increase came once with the launch of the second stage of production of MDF boards in 2016. Now, the production capacity exceeds 1 million m³ of MDF boards and 35 million m² of laminate per year. "The good quality of the products, the successful location of the plant, the balanced pricing policy have brought these results," said Ali Kylich, CEO of Kastamonu in Russia. "Today, the company's products have gained strong positions not only in the Russian market: more than 40% are exported to dozens of European countries and Asia. Sonae-Arauco to cease laminate operations in Horn, Germany
GHP Glunz Holzwerkstoffproduktions - GmbH (“GHP”) intends to cease all operations at its Horn Bad Meinberg site in Germany by the end of 2020. GHP is a subsidiary of Sonae Arauco, the joint venture between Sonae Indústria and Arauco, and has 106 employees. GHP’s main businesses are the production and sales of laminates, the production of worktops and the operation of a powerplant. According with the agreement entered into with Arauco in relation to Sonae Arauco, the Laminates and worktops business are the responsibility of Sonae Indústria. GHP’s powerplant together with the laminates and worktops operations, are the last remaining industrial activities on this large site in Horn whose main activities were closed down in 2014.
