Japan’s softwood lumber imports from Europe plunge 30% in May

Japan's imports of softwood lumber from Europe, Canada and Russia fell sharply in May, highlighting continued weakness in one of the world's key premium export markets. Despite relatively firm import prices, Japanese buyers continued to reduce purchasing volumes, with EU shipments falling 30% year-on-year, Russian deliveries down 32% and Canadian exports declining 21%, according to preliminary data released by Japan's Forestry Agency.
