Brazil: Exporters on the alert as the currency appreciates and wood production costs rise
The Brazilian currency has appreciated sharply against the US dollar over the past 12 months which is raising alarm bells amongst wood product exporters. According to the Brazilian Association of Mechanically Processed Timber Industry (ABIMCI) the Brazilian currency was down almost 23% on the US dollar as of February 2016 but has since strengthened steadily. Against a back-drop of rising production costs and the appreciating currency Brazilian exporters are bracing for tough times ahead.
