51% rise in EU softwood lumber exports to Egypt
In the first quarter of 2014, European Union countries expanded softwood lumber shipments to Egypt by 51% over the same quarter of 2013. In volume, Egypt has now become the second extra-EU destination for the European sawmills after Japan. About 740 thousand cubic meters of sawn and planed lumber were delivered to Egypt in Q1/2014 at a value of €126 million (€50 million more than in Q1/2013).
