Western US sawmills announce production curtailments

Two western sawmills have announced scheduled downtime. The Swanson Group says it will curtail production at its stud mill in Roseburg, Oregon in the weeks of Nov. 21 and 28, citing market conditions.

Manke Lumber Co. of Tacoma, Washington will take downtime in the week of Nov. 21.

In related news, Western lumber production through September totaled 10.527 billion board feet, up 2.5% compared to the first nine months last yea. Production through September in the Coast region was up 1.9% compared to a year ago, while Inland production rose 3.8%. Output in the California Redwood region was down 0.7% compared to a year ago. September production across the West totaled 1.157 bbf, off 7.3% from the August total but 4.9% higher than the September 2015 figure.
