Vietnam’s timber industry hit hard by the coronavirus outbreak in China
Vietnam’s timber sector is suffering. The number of infections caused by coronavirus (COVID-19) in Vietnam may be relatively small – 16 confirmed infected individuals, 15 of whom have since recovered, out of a population of 96 million people — but the economic effects have been far reaching. According to Phuc Xuan To, programme analyst at Forest Trends, in 2019 Vietnam exported $972.2 million worth of timber products to China and imported $395.5 million worth of timber products from China.
