Vapo Oy to re-think its forest land ownership strategy in Finland

Vapo Oy announced a survey aimed at improving the efficiency of the company’s raw material sourcing while releasing capital tied up in land ownership to support the development of other business operations.

The goal of the survey is to implement an ownership arrangement in which Vapo gives up nearly all of its land ownership and continues to utilize its previously owned land as a tenant. According to the announcement, it currently owns approximately 100,000 hectares of land and additional leased areas. The company targets completion of the arrangements concerning the land assets by summer 2017.

The land owned by Vapo Oy includes land suitable for peat production, but also forest land, former peat production areas that are suitable for agricultural use, as well as various reserves and supporting areas for production areas.
