Decline in US wooden furniture imports
US wooden furniture imports declined in February to under US$1.6 billion, but year-to-date imports remain higher than in February last year. The month-on-month decline was mainly in imports from China and Vietnam, but imports from most other suppliers (except Canada) were also down. Non-upholstered seating imports were unchanged from January, but imports of all other types of wooden furniture posted declined. 350 meter wooden skyscrapper planned in Tokyo
Sumitomo Forestry (SFC) summarized the concept W350 plan to realize wooden high-rise building with a height of 350 meter. According to the announcement, the objective of the project is to realize an environmentally-friendly city made of high-rise buildings made of wood, transforming the town into forest. The conceptual plan was prepared mainly by Tsukuba Research Laboratory of the company’s R&D institute. It provides a road map to future technologies such as building construction method, environmentally conscious technology, development of trees that become used parts and resources, and widens the possibility of wooden buildings in future. Russia chooses strategic partnership with China in wooden housing sector
Russia and China have recently discussed about a cooperation plan on wooden housing. Representatives of the Chinese government agencies showed their interest in the Russian's experience in wooden housing. "Wooden housing is a subject of interest to both Russia and China. China’s furniture imports at a record high
According to the China National Furniture Association the value of China’s furniture imports in 2017 rose 16% to US$3.052 billion, a record high for the past ten years. The cities accounting for the highest level of consumption of imported furniture were Shanghai, Guangdong, Beijing, Jiangsu and Tianjin. The value of furniture imports through Shanghai and Guangdong grew 35% and 17% respectively and these two account for over 50% of total national furniture imports. Analysts write that the driving force behind the rise in furniture imports was the significant growthin domestic furniture production costs. Prices for all inputs into furniture such as timber, steel, foam, leather, adhesives and hardware are continuing to rise.
