Turkey to impose additional tariffs on imports of wood products from US
With its publication in the Official Journal on 15 August, Turkey imposed additional duties on US imports. In the wood sector, Turkey has introduced a 10% duty mark-up for Group 4401 tariff numbers. Group 4401 includes not only firewood but also sawmill waste wood in the form of chips and woodchips as well as pellets and wood briquettes. Especially the imports of wood chips from the USA are relevant. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, 705,463 t worth US$42.96m were exported to Turkey last year. In the first half of the current year, deliveries of softwood chips to Turkey are stated at 322,871 t with a value of €24.65m.
