Swedish lumber export prices continue to fall
In December 2022, for the 6th month in a row, Swedish lumber export prices continued to fall: -3.9% compared to the previous month and -32.5% compared to December 2021. At the start of the year, the prices of Scandinavian timber began to rise again, in line with the rise in quotations on the American market. However, they remain above their levels of December 2019 (+32.9%) and December 2020 (+12.8%). Compared to November 2022, the prices of red wood fell by -3.2% and those of white wood by -4.3%. Domestic market prices decreased by -4.6% and are currently -33.5% lower than the previous year's prices. Log and sawnwood availability in Vietnam problematic and price a major issue
Due to the impact of Covid-19 imported wood raw materials from major suppliers is now problematic. Availability and supply chain disruptions have pushed up prices for imported wood which is affecting the willingness of Vietnamese manufacturers to accept orders with a long delivery period. In addition to the high cost of imports prices of local plantation timber have jumped about 5%. Practical solutions taken by the Government and the private sector have helped industries grasp market opportunities and record impressive growth in 2021. By the end of 2021 W&WP exports reached US$14.8 billion, up by 20% compared to 2020 and accounting for 4.4% of the total export earnings by the country.
