Swedish EU Presidency wants more timber construction
The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is committed to standardizing building regulations for timber construction in Europe. According to the EESC working paper for an opinion commissioned by the Swedish EU Presidency, one of the things EU member states should aim for is to increase the below-average use of wood in public buildings. The proportion of wood used as a building material in the EU is currently only 3%, so the potential of timber construction for climate protection is far from being exhausted. In the current working document, the EESC agrees with the Commission's view that natural and sustainable (construction) materials are of the utmost importance for the green transition.
