IKEA invests $223 million in India as part of the 25 stores plan
IKEA plans to invest $223 million in Mumbai, for a new store. This is part of the Swedish furniture company’s plan to open 25 stores across India by 2025. The first IKEA store in India is planned to come up within 18 months in Navi Mumbai and there are more than 5 million visitors expected to come every year, according to The Indian Express. “Ikea is starting to invest now. They have bought a big piece of land for $59,5 million in Navi Mumbai for their store,” said Apurva Chandra, Principal Secretary – Industries, Maharashtra government. The world’s largest furniture retailer wants to build a 400,000 sq ft store on the land. Moreover, IKEA also announced the opening of a second store in Hyderabad in the second half of 2017, which will be a massive 4 lakh square feet in size and will include all features of a global Ikea store, including restaurant, play and development...
