Prices fall while competition increases on the Russian fibreboard and MDF market
The Russian fibreboard and MDF/HDF output got to 2.5 million m3 in 2014. The solid fibreboard and thin MDF/HDF (2-6 mm thick) reached 1.1 million m3 of the total amount. Solid fibreboard and thin MDF/HDF represent 88% of the Russian fiberboard and MDF exports, as WhatWood reported. 27 Russian companies are manufacturing fibreboard and MDF/HDF and 13 of them produce MDF with a joint capacity of 3 million m3 per year. There are another 5 projects that are soon to be implemented and their joint capacity reaches 2 million m3 per year. At the moment, Kronostar and Kronospan are the largest solid fibreboard and thin MDF/HDF producers in the MDF/HDF segment. Vyatka plywood mill and Lesosibirsky LDK No. 1 hold the same position for the solid fibreboard segment, according to WhatWood.
