Latvia: Exports of wood industry exceeded EUR 2 billion in 2016

The total forest and woodworking industry products export value in Latvia reached the record high of EUR 2.102 billion. This represents a 4.6% increase over 2015. 

The total export value of the Latvian wood and wooden items (excluding matches) came up to EUR 1.794 billion, which is 5% more than in the previous year, when these figures reached EUR 1.709 billion.

The bulk of the Latvian forest and woodworking industry products exports was shipped to the UK, Estonia, and Germany.

Export share to the UK came up to 19.7% of the total export value or EUR 414.977 million (2015: 19.3% — EUR 388.049 million). Share of exports to Estonia were 9.9% more, or EUR 207.981 million(2015: 9.5% — EUR 190.380 million), and the export share to Germany — 9.8% or EUR 205.015 million (2015: 10.1% — EUR 202.284 million).

The value of the Latvian imports of forest and wood industry goods grew by 9.2% up to EUR 741.463 million. The key supplier of the above mentioned goods to Latvia was Estonia. Its share in the Latvian total forest and woodworking industry goods imports came up to 17.6% or EUR 130.653 million.
