Housing starts in US remain below 1 million mark

Construction started on 923,400 new homes in 2013. This is 18% higher than the number of starts in 2012, but construction activity is still significantly lower than before the 2008 financial crisis. Before the recession, housing starts ranged between 1 and 2 million units every year.    In December, the number of housing starts declined by 10%.
