The world's forested areas have decreased but rate of net forest loss has been cut by 50%, according to the UN FAO Global Forest Resources Assessment 2015. The biggest loss is in the tropics, particularly Africa and South America. Net forest area however, has increased in temperate and boreal regions in over 60 countries.
