Lumber production in Finland grew slightly last year. Domestic consumption grew, but as the exports declined, sawnwood stocks in Finnish sawmills increased sharply. This year will see a slight decrease in the production of sawnwood, as exports will continue to decline, albeit at a much slower pace than in the previous year. Approximately 74% of the lumber production in Finland is expected to be exported this year.
Last year, Finnish lumber exports fell by just over seven per cent from the previous year. Exports of pine lumber decreased somewhat, but exports of spruce lumber fell by over 14 per cent.
