European sawmills report static hardwood production
The European domestic hardwood supply situation was summarised at this year's International Hardwood Conference (IHC) by EOS Board Member Nicolae Tucunel. He reported that European annual sawn hardwood production has remained static at around 10.9 million m3 in the last three years despite the gradual economic recovery. Lack of raw material was highlighted as a problem in Germany, France and Belgium, where about 30% of hardwood sawmills across the three countries have been closed in the last decade.
