European imports and exports of softwood lumber developing at a similar growth pace
European imports of softwood lumber grew by 3.7% in 2016 to reach 35.9 million m3, comprised mainly of shipments between European countries. However, imports from outside of Europe increased at a slightly faster rate (4.4%) to reach 7.1 million m3. Most imports from outside the European subregion originate in the Russian Federation, Belarus and Ukraine. Collectively in 2016, imports from Belarus and the Ukraine grew by 0.5 million m3, with both countries exporting more than 1 million m3 of softwood lumber to Europe.
