China invests big in Russia’s timber processing industry

During 2014, Chinese investors will launch the first phase of a major Siberian timber complex, 'part of a push by Beijing to cement business ties with Moscow amid strained relations between Russia and the EU', a senior manager of the venture said last week, quoted by the Russian news agency Ria Novosti. Boris Kaznacheyev, Deputy Director General of Roskitinvest, said that the first phase of the project includes a timber processing park in Tomsk region (Western Siberia) with three mills and a power plant for industrial needs.
