Canadian softwood lumber production falls 8.6% in Q1/2019, driven by 14.7% decline in BC’s output
Sawmills in Canada produced 6.382 bbf in the first three months, down 8.6% from 6.985 bbf a year earlier. Output in British Columbia plunged 14.7% to 2.684 bbf in the three-month period from 3.145 bbf a year earlier, while sawmills east of the Rockies contributed 3.698 bbf, down 3.7% from 3.839 bbf. In March, Canadian production was 2.299 bbf, a 5.1% decline from 2.423 bbf in March 2018, but up 18.9% from 1.933 bbf in February 2019.   ...
