Canfor will permanently close its Fox Creek sawmill in Alberta by the end of the summer, removing approximately 120 million board feet of annual softwood lumber capacity from the Canadian market less than two weeks after announcing the closure of its Northwood pulp mill in British Columbia. While the company cited weak lumber markets, persistent US softwood lumber duties and tightening fibre supplies, Fox Creek represents more than another mill closure.
